Why on-device

Your data, your device, your call.

Most consumer health apps push your data through transcription vendors, AI providers, and behavioral advertising networks. Your parents' diagnoses, your children's records, your own labs — monetized. Masala Health doesn't work that way. There's no account, no ad network, and no data broker in the loop. Your family's records live on your phone, encrypted, under your passcode — and the few things that ever leave it (a redacted Q&A request, a recap you choose to send to mom) leave because you tapped send.

On-device by default

Records live in an encrypted SQLite database on your iPhone, gated by Face ID. Visit audio is transcribed locally with WhisperKit and never leaves the device — there's no transcription vendor in the loop.

Redacted Q&A

The only outbound call is a redacted question to the Claude API when you tap a finding to ask about it. Identifiers are stripped client-side before the request is made.

Sharing without sharing

Keep mom or a sibling in the loop with pre-visit briefs and post-visit recaps sent via iMessage or Mail. No second-user app to install — they get a normal text, not a login.

What it does

One operator. One device. The people you care for.

Ingest
Apple Health Records, MyChart CCDA bundles, and PDFs of printouts. Every observation is traced back to its source document. Vision extraction is verified before it counts.
Capture
Four visit modes — live recording when consented, a structured live-note when not, post-visit dictation, or a photo of the printed visit summary. All feed the same summary + action items pipeline.
Track
Trended metrics with reference ranges built for your biology, not the default. South Asians develop cardiovascular disease and Type 2 diabetes at lower BMI thresholds than standard American guidelines assume — Masala Health uses WHO and ADA South Asian-specific cutoffs. Screening cadences are age-, sex-, ethnicity-, and relationship-aware for every profile you manage.
Ask
Tap any finding to ask about it. Answers are grounded in the managed person's own history, with identifiers redacted before the request leaves the device.
Carry forward
Concerns persist across appointments. Open questions don't vanish between visits, and follow-ups land on the next appointment automatically.

Calibrated for who you are

Built around how South Asian families actually work.

Standard health apps were designed for one adult managing one person. South Asian families don't work that way. Masala Health is built for the person in the middle — managing your own appointments, your children's pediatric records, and your parents' cardiology notes, often across two healthcare systems and sometimes two countries. It also accounts for what American medicine routinely misses in South Asian patients:

  • Cardiovascular risk that appears at BMI levels your doctor may call normal — Masala Health uses the WHO threshold of 23, not 25.
  • Diabetes screening triggered earlier, with insulin resistance flags at South Asian waist circumference thresholds.
  • Lipoprotein(a) — a genetic risk factor disproportionately elevated in South Asians — flagged when labs are present but never followed up.
  • ASCVD risk scores annotated for known underestimation in South Asian populations.

If you have ever left a doctor's appointment feeling like the advice was written for someone else, it probably was.
